Missouri Grant Resources

From the 1930’s to the Civil Rights movement to Black Lives Matter, Missouri has always confronted conflict and injustice with inspiring social activism. It’s no surprise then that the “Show-Me” state has a flourishing nonprofit sector, which plays a large role in the social and economic vitality of its communities. However, it’s widely known that Missouri’s nonprofit sector doesn’t get the credit it fully deserves.

So whether you’re from St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield or anywhere in between, it’s important to know that nonprofit funding resources are available. Interested in learning how to win grants in Missouri? We suggest starting with the following steps.

The first step is to do your research on Missouri funding sources! All Missouri nonprofit funding is different, so it’s important to not only identify what resources are available, but also which nonprofit grants your organization is qualified for. The second step is learning how to write a nonprofit grant proposal. In need of a Missouri grant proposal course? Look no further than the Grantsmanship Center, as we offer our nonprofit grant proposal writing workshops regularly throughout the state. The third step is making sure you learn the basics of grants management, as knowing how to manage a grant is equally as important as obtaining grant funding for your nonprofit.

What Does a Funder Mean by “Innovative”?
It is one of the most common words in a funding announcement, and one of the least defined. "We are seeking innovative approaches. Priority will be given to innovative solutions. Describe what is innovative about your program." Reasonable people read that word and start to panic a little. Does the funder want us to reinvent our program? Do we need an app? Should we mention artificial intelligence somewhere, just in case? Take a breath. Here is what innovative is usually asking for, and what it almost never is. . .
How Many Proposals Should Your Organization Be Writing at Once?
More proposals in the pipeline can feel like more opportunity. Ten open opportunities look like ten chances at yes. But every proposal in that pipeline needs a real person to research it, write it, review it, and eventually deliver on it if it is funded. So the real question is not how many proposals can your organization submit. It is how many proposals can your organization submit well.
What Do You Do the Week After a Funding Decision?
The proposal is done. It was researched, drafted, reviewed, revised, and submitted right on deadline. Then it disappeared into a review process you cannot see and cannot influence. And then, one day, an email shows up. An award. Or a decline. Here is the part most organizations do not spend enough time thinking about. The outcome of that email is not actually what determines whether your organization gets stronger at proposal writing over time. What determines that is what you do in the week after you read it.
