The Grantsmanship Training Program - Online is an immersive, five-day live experience designed for real learning that sticks:
- Eight interactive online Learning Events over five full days
- One-on-one consultation with expert trainers
- Individual and group exercises with trainer coaching and collegial peer feedback
- A richly resourced e-notebook you'll refer to long after the training ends
- Approximately 28 total hours of active, engaged learning

This training is power-packed — five full and productive days that combine dynamic online Learning Events with individual and group exercises. Plan to devote time between sessions to complete exercises and readings so you get the absolute most from this experience (~28 total hours of active learning).

Please note: To withdraw and receive a refund, notify The Grantsmanship Center at least 10 business days prior to the training. In special circumstances, a substitute may attend with prior approval; the substitute must meet eligibility requirements. Transfers to a later training date must be requested in advance and incur a $50 administrative fee.
MEET THE TRAINERS
A 'lead' senior trainer and one or two 'guest' trainers, from the list below, will deliver each class. Enjoy the high energy, expertise, and the personal attention they focus on the class participants.
Christine K. Black, MLS, Senior Trainer, has won grants in major federal and foundation competitions, served as proposal reviewer for the U.S. Dept. of Ed., and taught grant proposal writing classes across the U.S. and internationally. As Assistant Director for Research Development at the University of Michigan Medical School, Chris supported faculty proposal development, including training, writing, editing, and reviewing. She developed the nationally recognized, often emulated R01 Boot Camp, a mentoring academy for young faculty.
Linda J. Boedeker, Senior Trainer, has worked with nonprofit organizations as executive director, trainer, development professional, and foundation officer. Linda managed the provision of services to persons affected by HIV and AIDS in 26 counties and has assisted nonprofits with fundraising, strategic planning, board development, and volunteer development. As an independent consultant, Linda has filled the role of chief executive officer during organization transitions for nonprofits in the arts, social service, and health.
Angela Richardson, Senior Trainer, brings expertise in program development, fund development, strategic planning, and organizational coaching. She has trained other trainers and trained staff for nonprofit organizations, school districts, governments, faith-based organizations, and colleges and universities. Angela has also reviewed proposals for the U.S. Department of Education and local arts commissions in Los Angeles and Rhode Island.
AJ King, Senior Trainer, brings decades of experience in public health plus 16 years of grant experience. AJ’s work includes proposal writing for the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, U.S. Department of State, California Department of Public Health, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health and numerous foundations; facilitating grant development processes; grant oversight; grant reviews; and program management. AJ also has facilitated processes for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Robert Lewis has more than 25 years of professional experience working in philanthropy and the nonprofit human and social services sector in various capacities. He currently serves as a Community Benefits Program Manager at L.A. Care Health Plan, a role in which he manages the company’s grantmaking efforts geared toward improving health care access for vulnerable populations and addressing social determinants of health. Robert is also Principal Emeritus for NEX-Impact, a management consulting group that provides relevant and culturally competent capacity building, coaching, and technical assistance services to nonprofit organizations and helps social investors better engage and support nonprofits. Previously, Robert was the architect and director for the California Community Foundation’s (CCF) BLOOM Initiative, an initiative focused on re-directing Black male youth who have been involved with the L.A. County probation system toward improved employment and educational opportunities. Robert also managed CCF’s grantmaking focused on youth aged out of foster care, low-income older adults and adults with developmental disabilities.
